The Tubman Weekly Seminar Series invites interested students and scholars to attend a seminar by Dr. Mariza de Carvalho Soares, a scholar from the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), Brazil. Dr. Soares will discuss her book “People of Faith,” published in 2011 with Duke University Press.
Dr. Soares explores what she calls “provenience groups” and how the concept helps in understanding the transposition of the idea of ethnic groups from Africa to the Americas. She explores the case study of the Min-Mahi, present-day Benin.
Dr. Soares will be speaking on Monday February 13th from 4:30 to 7:30 pm at 314 York Lanes – the Harriet Tubman Institute Resource Centre.
We welcome participants to come and learn more about this critical and challenging issue.
Come out and join the discussion!
