Martin Klein, "Sexuality and Female Slavery: A Comparative Perspective", TUBMAN SEMINAR SERIES

The Tubman Seminar Series invites interested students and scholars to attend a seminar by Dr. Martin Klein of the University of Toronto concerning the nuanced role which gender played within the slave trade, entitled "Sexuality and Female Slavery: A Comparative Perspective".

Martin Klein is Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto and a pioneer in the field of African history. Prof. Klein is an outstanding scholar and the author of several classic works on the history of Africa and the history of slavery in general, including Slavery and Colonial Rule in French West Africa, Women and Slavery in Africa, and Historical dictionary of slavery and abolition. The seminar offers a unique opportunity to dialogue with one of the world’s greatest scholars of African history, slavery and the slave trade concerning his current cutting- edge research project.

Dr. Klein spoke at 305 York Lanes on Tuesday, January 25th, between 12:00 noon and 1:30. We welcome participants to come and learn more about the ways in which sexuality and gender roles played an important part of the story of enslavement. Everyone is encouraged to come and learn more!
