Dr. Joel Quirk is the Deputy Director of the Wilberforce Institute for the study of Slavery and Emancipation (WISE), University of Hull. His research primarily focuses upon the historical relationship between the legal abolition of slavery and contemporary forms of human bondage. This is reflected in a forthcoming book entitled The Anti-Slavery Project: bridging the Historical and Contemporary (University of Pennsylvania Press). Joel’s work has also recently been published in Human Rights Quarterly, The Journal of Human Rights, Review of International Studies, The International Journal of Human Rights, The Journal of Modern European History, and The Oxford handbook of International Relations. He recently published, with UNESCO, Unfinished Business: A Comparative Survey of Historical and Contemporary Slavery.
