The Tubman Institute, in partnership with UNESCO, successfully hosted a workshop on the Teaching of African History, in Founders College, York University, from November 5 to 7, 2010. The workshop was opened by Mamdouh Shoukri, President of York University, who welcomed 35 presenters and over 70 participants.

Robin Law, Emeritus Professor of African History, University of Stirling, Scotland, and member of Tubman Institute was recognized for his notable contribution to the field of African Studies. Professor Law received the Distinguished Africanist Award at the Biennial Conference of the African Studies Association of the UK at Oxford, September 2010.

Dr. Luce received his Ph.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, in 2009. His area of specialization is contemporary slavery in Brazil and Angola.
