The Tubman Seminar Series invites interested students and scholars to attend a seminar by Vanessa Oliveira of York University concerning the mistreatment of slaves by their owners in nineteenth century Luanda, entitled "Denouncing their owners’ cruelty: the voices of punished slaves in nineteenth-century Luanda ".

Oliveira spoke at the Tubman Institute reading room, 321 York Lanes, on Tuesday, January 18th, between 12:00 noon and 1:30. We welcome participants to come and learn more about the voices which emerge from this chapter of enslavement in Angolan history, and the day to day hardships which Africans faced at that time. Everyone is encouraged to come and learn more!
