Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on the Global Migrations of African Peoples
Governor General Michaëlle Jean presided over the official inauguration of The Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on the Global Migrations of African Peoples, March 25, 2007, on the 200th anniversary of the day the British law to abolish the slave trade received Royal assent. The Tubman Institute is associated with the UNESCO "Slave Route" Project.
The Tubman Institute is an Organized Research Unit at York University and is governed by the regulations of the Senate of York University. The Tubman Institute incorporates earlier projects, including the York/UNESCO "Nigerian Hinterland Project" and the Harriet Tubman Resource Centre on the African Diaspora.
