The sale of the BME Church in Guelph, Ontario closes on November 14th

BME Church in Guelph, Ontario

The historic BME Church in Guelph, Ontario is up for sale. The church is one of the last remaining social institutions of the city’s historic black community. Vetting of proposals is currently underway. A group of citizens created the Guelph Black Heritage Historical Foundaton to formalize their concerns and mount a counter proposal to preserve the church. They created a youtube video and posted it yesterday (November 9th).

The group is making an urgent and passionate appeal for support. Please share widely to increase awareness of this issue.

At stake, is the loss of an important social institution within Guelph, and the ongoing erasure of the black historical presence in this part of Southern Ontario.

Please contact John Leacock at the Guelph Black Heritage Historical Foundationton for more information.
