Sean Kelley and Paul Lovejoy, editors
This collection presents surviving life stories of individuals from West Africa during the era of slavery as recorded in primary sources. The texts and testimonies are transcribed from original documentation with minimum or no editing but with a brief introduction to establish context. The collection is intended to provide a research and teaching resource that draws on the voices of people who experienced slavery. These sources can be used to reconstruct the period of the slave trade through the memories of individuals whose ties with their homelands were broken but whose memories continued.
